Miatas At Myrtle Beach 2008

Some of you may or may not know, but I traded my sunlight silver RX-8 in for a 2007 Mazda MX-5 (Miata).

I have wanted a convertible for a number of years, and actually wanted a Miata since they hit the streets 18 years ago!

By purchasing this car, I lowered my car payment, my insurance costs, and my gas costs (This is rated 30 mpg on the highway, versus the abysmal 18.5 mpg I was seeing in my RX-8)  It was a Trifecta and perfect opportunity to enjoy some top down motoring all in one!

The night I decided that I was going to purchase my 2007 Stormy Blue Mica MX-5 I searched on Google to see just what in the heck to expect in terms of "gotcha's" around the current generation MX-5.  (otherwise known as the NC, which as the 3rd generation has been in production since the 2006 model year.)  I found this as a left over new 2007, and saved a bundle!

Here it is out in the back yard after my first coats of Zaino on it.  (Show car polish)

One of the things I learned on Miata.net and Triad Miatas was that there was going to be a Miata meet at Myrtle Beach, the weekend AFTER we were going to be down for our anniversary week.  After seeing how cheap the rooms were going to be, Amber and I decided to make the trek down in the new MX-5.  People came from as far away as New Hampshire and a vendor came out from Colorado!  I don't know the exact totals, but there were well over 100 Miatas "zoom-zooming" around Myrtle Beach that weekend!

Here are some pictures from the weekend.  Including some taken not by me, but by other folks who were documenting the experience.  We had a blast, Poker Run (I had a pair of aces, too bad, Trip Seven's won!), Car show, Miata "parade", Hot Dog lunch, getting to meet and hang out with some really great people, and some free time for Amber and I to have a weekend alone for the first time in probably 3 years!

Those shots were around the parking lot behind the Jewel building at the Sea Mist.  That's where we all congregated the first day.

Saturday was the official car show.

Here's our Best in show winner, and his car. (He also won the first place in the NB category, go figure)  He's part of the Triad club and a really nice guy.

Miata Parade Pics.  Although not an official "parade" we got out on Ocean Blvd. and drove up from the Sea Mist to past the Pavilion (For those of you familiar with Seaside Heights, there's no boardwalk at Myrtle.  On Ocean Blvd. there is a section that used to have a bunch of amusement park rides near it, that has all the "rip you off" type shops where the crowds gather during the tourist season

This pic was taken by one of the local club members as a number of us were taking off on our "parade".

When we got up to the Yachtsman, as many of us as possible pulled into the parking lot across the street and started blowing our horns and basically creating a minor ruckus.  The other tourists there didn't know what to make of us, and they were video taping and taking pictures of us.  Also, people from the clubs documented it as well, which meant we got some shots of Amber and I in the MX-5.

here are a couple of shots of us pulling in and then out.

Note as we pulled out, there were many more folks pulling into the lot.

Hope you enjoyed all the Miatas.
