Grandfather Mountain drive

Amber and I took a little trip up to Grandfather mountain in his MX-5 to enjoy the Fall leaves during the peak weekend.  Although Amber seems to remember going there at least once, I don't think I've ever been.  It was a nice day trip.  Trey spent the night with his Maw Maw Brown, and we had a nice time out in the Miata.  (Highway 221 is a great little curvy road for those who are into that sort of thing!)

We started out up 421 and picked up the Blue Ridge Parkway just north of the Wilkesboros

We saw some wildlife up there in the park at the museum

The park was PACKED with people trying to do the same thing we were, enjoying the peak fall color

Here we are on the "other" side of the Mile High Swinging bridge.

It was very interesting to see how the winds have shaped the plants up there.

When we left, we looped back around to Boon on 221 and saw Grandfather Mountain from the back side.

We also saw this monstrosity on top of I believe Sugar mountain?  Thankfully, the rest of this area is protected from this kind of development in the future.
